Top 5 Winter Golf Destinations

With the summer vacation months almost halfway through, some of us are already looking ahead to a winter golf trip. While there are numerous places you can go, this are my top 5 winter golf destinations.

Honorable Mention: San Antonio, Texas

With 2 golf resorts, the JW Marriott at TPC San Antonio and La Cantera Resort, you have a couple choices as to where to stay. San Antonio also has a decent municipal course line up for those looking for a destination on a budget.

5. San Diego, California

Without Torrey Pines, San Diego probably doesn’t make the list. San Diego doesn’t have as many options as the others on the list, but the winter weather makes up for it.

4. Naples/Fort Myers, Florida

With golf resorts such as Tiburon, Ritz-Carlton, and LaPlaya in Naples, along with the golf courses of Raptor Bay and Old Corkscrew in Fort Myers, there is plenty to choose from.

3. South Florida

Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach like San Diego make the list more based on their winter weather than just golf alone. With Trump National Doral, PGA National, The Breakers, and Turnberry Isle, there are just as many option to stay as Naples. If you get the chance, check out the Palm Beach Par 3 course!

2. Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona

Phoenix and Scottsdale offer 2 vary different choices as far as price. Phoenix being much more economical, with courses like Papago, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes, Wigwam and ASU Karsten. Scottsdale boasts some of the best courses in the nation. With the likes of Troon North, We-Ko-Pa, Boulders, TPC Scotsdale, and Greyhawk. If you have the oppurtunity, play the TPC Scottsdale Stadium either right before or after the Waste Management Open with the stands up. Hole 16 is a cool experience when they are up.

1. Palm Springs, California

Palm Springs being my favorite golf destination, this was an obvious choice for me. Like Phoenix and Scottsdale, you can spend as much or as little as you want. Some top resorts are La Quinta, PGA West, Desert Willow, Marriott’s Shadow Ridge and Indian Wells anchor the Coachella Valley. There are also some top stand alone courses like SilverRock, Classic Club and Escena. The Palm Springs area is one of the best values in my opinion as well.

No matter where you decide to go, there are plenty of great winter golf destinations not on this list. If you have a favorite place, or a destination with a buddy lives, go play some golf!
